Since it kicked off in 2011, the Good¢ents round up program has helped many non-profit groups and organizations. For example, Good¢ents funds helped remodel Dance Theatre Fairbanks to make it more energy efficient, supported the Breast Cancer Detection Center digital imaging coach, helped renovate the Bread Line so that it can accommodate more people and purchased playground equipment in Healy.
But Good¢ents is not just about organizations; individuals are eligible too. The program has sponsored a disabled youth at an educational summer camp, helped purchase lumber for a Girl Scout project and assisted with emergency medical expenses.
The Good¢ents trustees met in August and chose to award five individual grants totalling up to $12,190. All grants will cover emergency medical expenses falling into the following categories:
- Automobile accident-related (2)
- Respiratory illness
- Cancer treatment for a terminally ill patient
