GVEA members reelect three incumbent directors

This evening Golden Valley Electric Association members reelected all three incumbent directors. GVEA’s Election Committee certified election results for the three seats. Ballots were mailed to all members residing in Districts 1, 2 and 3 on May 9, 2014. Members had the option of returning ballots either by mail or electronically.  A 10 percent ballot return was required for a quorum.  Following are the results:

District 1 – Ballots mailed:  6,027
Valid ballots returned:  888 – 14.7%
Aren Gunderson:  471 votes – 53%
David Pelunis-Messier:  417 votes – 47%
Gunderson, who ran against David Pelunis-Messier, was elected to the board in 2011.

District 2 – Ballots mailed:  6,249
Valid ballots returned:  867 – 13.8%
Tom DeLong:  506 votes – 58%
Richard Wies:  361 votes – 42%
DeLong, who ran against Richard Wies, was elected to the board in 2005.  He currently serves as vice chairman of the board.

District 3 – Ballots mailed:  6,879
Valid ballots returned:  809 – 11.7%
John Orbeck:  295 votes – 36%
Rick Schikora:  363 votes – 45%
Nancy Shafer:  151 votes – 19%
Schikora, who ran against John Orbeck and Nancy Shafer, was elected to the board in 1986.  He currently serves as treasurer of the board.
