GVEA’s 2017 Election Results

On the afternoon of Thursday, June 15, 2017, the ballots were tallied. Judges from GVEA’s Election Committee certified the results of the 2017 Board of Directors election. Here are the results:

  • District 1:  In a close election, David Messier won over incumbent Aren Gunderson.
    • Of the 6,177 ballots mailed on May 12, 2017, 891 valid ballots were cast, which constitutes a 15% return. Here’s the breakdown:
      • Aren Gunderson:  435 votes / 49%
      • David Messier:  456 votes / 51%
    • Of the valid ballots received, 26% were cast electronically.
    • GVEA’s bylaws state that a minimum of 10% return of valid ballots of the total membership of each voting district is required.
  • Districts 2 and 3:  Tom Delong and Rick Schikora, respectively, both ran unopposed and were each appointed by the board to serve another 3-year term.

Next year, directors for District 4 (Gary Newman) and District 7 (Bill Nordmark) will be up for election.
