GVEA’s Adjusted Fuel & Purchased Power Rate Effective Dec 1, 2019

The Fuel & Purchased Power (F&PP) rate, effective December 1, 2019 through February 29, 2020, will increase from 9.177¢ to 10.998¢. This represents a 19.84% increase from the last F&PP rate, as approved by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA). The impact will increase a residential member’s monthly bill by approximately $10.93, based on an average monthly usage of 600 kWh a month.

The three main contributors to this increase are:

  • No power available from Bradley Lake Hydroelectric due to damage to the Soldotna to Quartz Creek (SQ) transmission line, which was sustained during the Swan Lake Fire. This will continue into the first quarter of 2020.
  • Continued limited power available for purchase from southern utilities.
  • Continued reduced generation output anticipated for Healy Unit 2 power plant.
