Is there any relief for these high winter bills?

“It’s getting harder and harder to make ends meet and I’m having a hard time keeping up with my electric bills. Is there any financial help available?” several members have asked.

First, talk to us. Often we can work out a payment agreement to spread overdue payments over a few months. That might be all you need to get back on track.

If your financial situation is more complicated, you may want to seek financial assistance. While Golden Valley does not have an energy assistance program to help pay electric bills, there are several local and state agencies that may be able to help with energy bill costs.

Below is a list of agencies we frequently refer members to. You may also qualify for assistance from Interior Weatherization. While this is not financial assistance, it can help reduce your energy usage – for both electricity and home heating fuel. Lower energy usage means lower bills.

Through Interior Weatherization, renters and homeowners with low to moderate income may be eligible for:

  • thermal doors
  • windows
  • insulation
  • air-sealing
  • weather stripping
  • heating system repair or replacement
