We’re giving away free trees on May 19

Be sure to stop by our Fairbanks offices on Saturday, May 19 to pick up your free tree (sapling). A limited supply of trees will also be available at our Delta and Nenana offices on Friday. We’ll start handing out trees at 9 a.m. First come, first served. Supplies are limited and all trees generally find homes by noon – so don’t plan on sleeping in!

This year marks our 22nd annual FREE tree giveaway in celebration of Arbor Day.

We’re giving away 2,000 crabapple – Siberian and Selkirk varieties – and 1,000 Amur maple trees. The Selkirk crabapple is a zone 3 tree and should be planted at a higher elevation than the Siberian. For the best results, plant these trees in the sun.

Eli Mitchell says:

Is there a limit on trees per person, or is it just first come first serve?

admin says:

Hi Eli,
We try to get as many trees to as many families as possible, so the rule is one tree per membership.
Great question!

Molly says:

How long can these trees stay in their containers before they need to be planted? I’m leaving town this Saturday the 19th and won’t be back for about a week. Do you think it will be too late to plant the tree by then?

admin says:

Molly,
People have been known to put their trees in 5-gallon buckets with water and plant them the next week. You should be fine! In fact, it will probably start to bud while you are out of town.
