Good¢ents trustees award $14,000

The Good¢ents Board of Trustees met on May 22 to review applications. It chose to award funds to two individuals and four organizations. Here is a breakdown of the awards:

Hannah Brice-Smith of Relay for Life is proud of the new power pole that Good¢ents helped fund at the track.

Literacy Council of Alaska: $2,000 to school age literacy programs in the Interior. The money will sponsor an Americorp Volunteer who organizes and supports these programs.

Relay For Life: $5,000 grant towards the installation of a power supply at the West Valley High School track. The power supply will be available for the Relay for Life event as well as for any other community organizations using the track.

Joel’s Place: $500 to support a summer film making project for local youths. The monies will be used for training, filmmaking supplies and video editing software.

Loving Companions, Inc.: $1,000 to upgrade kennel gates at the facility. Loving Companions specializes in care for older pets, funds and sponsors low cost spay and neuter programs and offers special services to low income pet owners including a pet food bank.

Individual #1: $500 to help purchase lumber for a Girl Scout project. The project includes building a shed for the North Pole Booster Club and fixing the concession stand building that already exists.

Individual #2: Up to $5,000 awarded to an individual undergoing cancer treatment.
