GVEA Board Appoints Brad Benson to Vacant District 7 Seat

At last night’s regular monthly board meeting, Golden Valley Electric Association’s (GVEA) Board of Directors appointed Healy resident Brad Benson to fill District 7’s vacant seat. The vacancy was created when Bill Nordmark stepped down after 25 years of service to GVEA members.

“As a resident and business owner, Brad is committed to the residents of District 7,” said GVEA Board Chair Tom DeLong. “Through his involvement with GVEA’s Member Advisory Committee, and as a District 7 board candidate in 2018, Brad understands the challenges GVEA faces to provide reliable energy at fair and reasonable prices. Brad will represent Interior residents well as we continue to explore innovative energy solutions.”

Benson is an avid outdoorsman who operates several tourism businesses in the Denali Park area. He is also a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Benson’s District 7 appointment will fulfill the remainder of Nordmark’s term, which expires June 2021. The board seats for Districts 4 and 7 will be up for election this coming spring.

District 7 runs along the Parks Highway from mile 330, near Skinny Dick’s Halfway Inn, to mile 210 at Cantwell.
